Thanks to Microsoft for launching Office apps for iPad. For end-users, it was really worth the 4-year-long wait (since the time iPad originally launched). Individual users are the happiest lot but ... corporate IT is having nightmares. Why?
Because, their users can save corporate documents only in OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive)! Which means, if an organization does not have or does not want to have a OneDrive subscription, which will be the case for a very large number of enterprises (particularly in security-conscious or regulated verticals), it is susceptible to compliance and data loss risks (to a third-party cloud over which they have no control).
We look forward to Microsoft supporting options for saving and opening documents in other apps and cloud storage, so that users (especially IT) can control what can or cannot be done with the documents.
